Dr. George Commons is an internationally renowned plastic surgeon, researcher, and educator. He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the Plastic Surgery Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Stanford University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a professional organization whose exacting standards of surgical excellence define the specialist surgeon. Dr. Commons is a graduate of Allegheny College and University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. His years of experience in plastic surgery began first as a plastic surgery Resident and Fellow at Stanford University Medical Center, and continued as Chief of Plastic Surgery in the U.S. Air Force at Clark A.F.B. in the Philippines. After his time in the Air Force, he opened a private practice in Palo Alto where he continues his work in plastic surgery today.

Dr. Commons is often asked to give presentations to his colleagues and at the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon (ASAPS) meetings. He is called upon as an expert witness in plastic surgery litigation. Dr. Commons participates in research and development especially in stem cell research using fat from liposuction. He has chapters in 10 text books and has authored nineteen published articles.

Dr. Seung K. Kim has been practicing plastic surgery in the Bay area for more than twenty five years. After graduating from Dartmouth College with honors including Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Kim attended Stanford University for his entire medical education — medical school, general surgery and plastic surgery training. He was an assistant professor in plastic surgery at Stanford from 1983 to 1987 and has been a clinical faculty member at Stanford ever since.

Dr. Kim believes in lifetime learning. He constantly evaluates his own work critically to refine his expertise. He regularly attends educational meetings to stay current with the latest advances in plastic surgery. He incorporates new techniques into his own practice only after he evaluates their effectiveness and safety thoroughly. Dr. Kim is also passionate about teaching. As Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in Plastic Surgery at Stanford, he devotes many hours teaching young doctors in training.

Dr. Kaplan has practiced in Palo Alto and Stanford for more than 42 years including 15 years on the fulltime academic faculty at Stanford and 27 years in private practice in Palo Alto. After 3 years at U.C.L.A. in engineering school and completing his senior year with honors in Zoology he entered U.C.L.A. Medical School and graduated with AOA honors for the top 10% in his class. He then did 6 years of resident training in plastic surgery and general surgery at Stanford. He then practiced plastic surgery at Stanford Medical School and Hospital as Associate Professor of Surgery. While at Stanford he was the Director of Emergency Services, and Director of the Cleft lip and palate Clinic. He also was the author of 43 journal articles, author of 14 books and book chapters. He has also was co-founder of Cemax Inc, a producer of CT scan designed individual synthetic body parts and also was research and clinical developer of injectable collagen for Collagen Corporation

He has been in private practice in Palo Alto for the nearly 30 years and in addition is Adunct Clinical Professor of Surgery and coordinator for the Stanford Plastic Surgery Residents’ Cosmetic clinic training program. Dr. Kaplan is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) and certified by the American Board of General Surgery and the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Throughout his career he has donated his time and skills to doing free surgery in developing nations for children with facial birth defects and cleft lip and palate . He was president or medical director of Interplast for 20 years.

Dr. Gurtner is a Professor in the Division of Plastic Surgery and Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Stanford Medical School. Dr. Gurtner completed a general surgical residency at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, a plastic surgery residency at the New York University School of Medicine and an Oncologic Reconstruction Fellowship at the University of Texas MD Andersen Cancer Center.

Dr. Gurtner has been in practice for over ten years. For the first five years, he was program director at the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery in New York City. While in Manhattan, Dr. Gurtner maintained a busy private cosmetic practice until 2005 when he moved with his family to Stanford University. He attended medical school at Stanford. He completed residency in Plastic Surgery at UCLA. While in LA, Dr. Lee was inspired by Dr. William Shaw, a pioneer in breast and microsurgery. Dr. Lorenz is a Professor in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University. Dr. Lorenz graduated from the University of Michigan School of Medicine. He then completed the General Surgery Residency Program at UCSF. This program included five clinical years in surgery and three years in a research fellowship. The research fellowship emphasized both development of novel fetal surgical techniques and understanding the biology of scarless fetal wound healing. Next, he completed the residency program in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UCLA, with an emphasis on reconstructive, cosmetic, and microsurgery.He completed the Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and the Stanford University Hospital. . His clinical interests are in craniofacial surgery, pediatric plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery, and cosmetic surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
